okay, so that ipod experiment that i did? well... the new radiohead came out, so i have to say, i have failed the experiment.
oh well. in 1 week, 130 songs, i went from aesop rock to ani difranco. it's been a blast.... kinda. if i followed through with this experiment, i would have been done in 1 year. what a thought!
a high point was going through al green. i guess that made it all worthwhile.
how's the radiohead album? that's a different post ;)

Aesop Rock... |
] |
i was driving in my car one evening, and handed my ipod to aaron to choose an album to play, to which he replied, "how about we play all of them?"
i said, "no, you're crazy, that would take months to play out..."
pondering that one statement sparked an inner curiosity. how many moments of my life can be cataloged into a song/album that has been etched into my memory? why do i automatically push the "shuffle" button, or opt to listen to the same 12 albums when i have an array of 6000 songs? what divine secrets, what horrible noise, what fantastic memory do i have hidden in this box of mechanics?
to which i devised:
The Ipod Experiment
the rules are quite simple, really. list artists to "all", and push play. go with it. DO NOT under ANY circumstances push skip, unless the following occurs:
- a track is severely damaged, to the point where it is 'unlistenable'
- a track is empty
- if the title has no irony or poetic connection to the extended 'silence', then it is skip-able
and that's it! should your ipod be used in social circumstances, just tell your guests that they will be 'participants' in your ipod experiment.
i'd like to see what everyone 'logs' for this experiment, for i will attempt to do the same.
here we go!
1st album: Aesop Rock - Bazooka Tooth

behold, the most unfathomable creation of mankind brought to life:

"what on earth is that?" you say? be patient, my child, for i will tell you.
this is a concoction of pizza-hut japan with the most choice ingredients for your discriminating pallet. you get a 'sausages' and bacon in blankets hugging a pie that you can dip in maple syrup or ketchup (your choice!), as well as the following toppings:
- hamburgers
- peas
- corn
- pepperoni
- ham
- bacon bits
- tomato
- mushrooms
- onions
- peppers
- garlic chips
- black pepper
- and a hint of basil
i know your next question is, "wtf?" and i find it astonishing as well. i am a fan of all japanese foods, except their take on american foods (considering that american foods are just a bad take on every other national food).
Pizza Hut Japan
some other "japanese pizza ingredients include: mochi (rice cakes), nori (dried seaweed), potatoes, octopus, mayonaise and barbeque sauce, and boiled eggs.
DIG IN!

Cold War Kids - We Used to Vacation |
] |
it's been a while since my last update...
i'm currently working at a cubicle job. friday was 'crazy hat day', and i'm awfully reminded of the simpsons episode when that was enforced at the nuclear power plant to 'raise company morale':
Marge gets a job
no tom jones though. darn.
i think of doing wreckless things, but the extent of the 'wrecklessness' would probably be just flying a kite in the smoke-yard. when did i get so boring?
how long can i stomach living a life i vowed never ever to lead? my heart certainly can't.
i decided to not drive past the old-folks-home on my way to work, because old people inevitably die at a rapid rate, and the ambulances slow my progress to earn my mediocre wages.

so voila, second row in stereolab (like my french?)
it was freakin amazing. mostly new stuff... but man, the lighting really... stunk. i could do better than that.
is there such a thing as "smart rock"? because that's how i'd describe this band... tight, formulated, swinging from groove to electro at the drop of a hat, all with a sweaty drummer, three synths, moving bassline... throw in a french horn, and have a hip french girl lead the band (what?! she also plays the trombone????),
i did manage to sneak some pics in with tight security and crappy lighting:

| Plug Music Awards |
[03 Feb 2006|07:36pm] |
the plug music awards at webster hall was pretty sweet for only twenty
bucks. granted, the awards were kinda disorganized, with artists
announcing the winners while the music was playing, or before the music
played, or... whatever.
matisyahou was hilarous beatboxing the best avant album of the year.
other announcers were tv on the radio, big bear, and the people from
pitchforkmedia (who were boo'ed off the stage (ha!)).
out of the performers, though i went to go see the national and the
perceptionists (who were both very very impressive), the biggest
surprise came from a band called celebration.
being front row center, i was almost decapitated by her mic cord when
she jumped into the crowd. very sexual and energetic. the opening act, beans and holy fuck! were a rap "band" that were in key, experimental, and phenomenal.
cage was the crowd pleaser. a lot of def jux fans out there.
( and the winners were (* next to whom I actually voted for) )

working as a movie-screen projector wasn't for me. granted, i did get to write subliminal messages in frames (i recollect one being "anus" and "boobies"... so childish, lisa, so childish), but the longer i worked there, the longer i imagined creepy ax murderers sitting in a flourescent room at their workdesk for hours upon hours, mapping a plot to gun down small villas at a time.
so i had to leave. fight club told me to do so.
i spent new years day working my full-time job. a voice from a concerned caller at my job said: "you're workin' on new years? you know, what you do on new years is what you're gonna be doin' for the rest of the year..."
goddamn!
the one bright thing to look forward to is stereolab in march. i'll be ironing workclothes until then.

is it just me, or is everyone getting laid off at an alarming rate?
what's going on here?
and everyone has been jumping on this "holiday" thing a little early this year. i feel this is the country's attempt to resuscitate a dying system; killing off the dreams of a few and wrap it with a pretty bow. all smiles on our brand.
cue the product jingle garnished with bells. ho! ho! ho!
lately bank firms are asking if you'll have enough money to send your kid off to grad school. because a bachelor's is laughable as we crawl to an unlivable minimum wage standard.
we're hungry, we're hungry. watch the turkey. we're hungry.
